Dear Student, Allow me to introduce myself: my name is Sabri Saleem, Director of the Yemen Language Center in Sana'a, Republic of Yemen. I wish to take this opportunity to welcome you to our web site. This web site has been designed to inform students worldwide about the wonderful opportunities available for students to experience the language and rich culture of the Republic of Yemen first hand. With over 18 years of experience, the Yemen Language Center takes pride in being the oldest institution in Yemen exclusively devoted to teaching Arabic as a foreign language to students from all around the world. I hope you have taken the opportunity to browse through our web-site and experience, through the power of the internet, a brief view of our beautiful country and an insight into the excellent facilities offered here at the YLC. As you can see, our web site has recently been updated to offer you a better and more informed perspective of what you can expect during your visit to Yemen, whether your visit is for academic purposes or simply for tourism. We hope that this site will allow you to obtain answers to some of the questions you may have in mind. If you require further information either about Yemen or about the courses offered by the YLC, please feel free to contact any of our offices in North America, Europe, or Yemen. Our staff would be delighted to assist you in any concerns you may have. You will also notice that we have provided you with links to former students and visitors of the YLC, some of whom may be colleagues of yours, in order to offer you a better, unbiased look into the experience of studying in Sana'a. Our institution is proud of the collective experience of our staff, ranging from 5 to 23 years, in teaching Arabic as a foreign language. Classes in the Center are designed to create an intimate environment between our staff and the student body. Language learning is not restricted to the classroom: outside classes in the Center, we strongly encourage students to meet Yemenis in their homes and on the streets and hence utilize one of the largest natural language laboratories in the world. Our language programs are designed to be complete immersion programs, where students have the opportunity to practice and improve their language skills continually. You should also note that Yemeni Arabic dialects are far closer to Standard and Classical Arabic than dialects spoken outside the Arabian Peninsula. We therefore take pride in the fact that our facilities are unmatched, not only in Yemen, but also in the Arab world. Most foreigners
looking at Yemen from the outside have unfortunately encountered unfavorable
publicity about the country. For this reason, we have made our new web
page available and given you the opportunity to contact previous students
of the Center. We hope you will utilize this helpful tool which will allow
you to look at Yemen for what it is. We are very proud of the achievements
of our past students, who have become ambassadors of our country, many
of whom continue to relay the image of the Yemeni people and their hospitality
years after their visit to Yemen. Sincerely, Sabri Saleem |
